Kimbap Plus
Kimbap from Kimbap Plus on Keeaumoku Street. I usually get the gobo kimbap or the fire tuna kimbap. It's $7.99 per kimbap and one just the right size for lunch. The owner is super nice, it's a one-woman operation. There's lots of parking right in front. If you go during prime lunch hours (11am-1pm), call your order in ahead of time or be prepared to wait. Takeout only. Kimbap Plus: 1020 Keeaumoku St # 100, Honolulu, HI 96814.
Oceanside Bakery
Breakfast combo at Oceanside Bakery. $10 for a coffee (hot or iced) and a breakfast sandwich. I always get the ham and cheese croissant. They'll ask if you want it warmed up and the answer is a definite yes! There are a couple of tables to sit outside. Plenty of street parking in the morning. Oceanside Bakery: 1176 Smith St, Honolulu, HI 96817.
Mad Pie
Any of the pizza slices at Mad Pie! Slices start at $5.50. My go-to slice is the spinach and garlic. They warm the slices to order, but if you visit at opening time and get a hot hot slices from the oven, it is extra wonderful. I also order a cannoli (plain with pistachio) or cookie (pistachio chocolate chip) for dessert. Free 1 hour parking in the connected building garage, the parking lot entrance is on Pohukaina Street. Mad Pie: 516 Keawe St D, Honolulu, HI 96813.
New Cholon
All the savory and sweet Vietnamese dishes/snacks from New Cholon in Chinatown! New Cholon is part-grocery store and part-prepared foods shop. There is a big long table right when you enter the store. This is the section with all the prepared snacks! 1 item is a light lunch, 2 is complete meal. They're about $5-7 an item. Offerings change daily, I usually get Banh Beo and Banh Bot Loc. Street parking. New Cholon: 169 N King Street, Honolulu, HI 96817.
Epi-Ya
Bacon Epi from Epi-Ya! Ask for it at the register, they keep it in back shelf against the wall. A really beautiful epi with generous bacon slices baked right in. It's always delicious but when you get it warm and fresh from the oven...WOW. I've devoured the entire thing in the car, call it a light lunch. Epi-Ya: 1296 S Beretania St. #105, Honolulu, HI 96814.
Sachi Sweets
The super $15 bentos from Sachi Sweets. The bentos are available for grab and go and come in options like unagi, chicken, butterfish, yakiniku, salmon, and gyudon. They come packed on a bed of rice with a mix of daily vegetables, pickles and sides like fishcake and tamago. Love taking this home for a quiet solo dinner + good movie on tv. Free and easy parking lot right in front. Sachi Sweets: 2080 S King Street, Honolulu, HI 96826.
Onigiri Onibe
Two onigiri and a bowl of miso soup at Onigiri Onibe makes for a great lunch. I like the mentaiko with egg yolk onigiri and the beef sukiyaki with egg yolk onigiri. Basically it's the cured egg yolks that I really love heheh. Order at the counter and get a seat along the bar. The onigiri will arrive plated and warm. Immensely satisfying. It's a seated/serviced lunch and a quick lunch and a good deal. Onigiri Onibe: 921 Alakea St, Honolulu, HI 96813.
Le's Banh Mi
The Saigon Special banh mi from Le's Banh Mi is perfection. It's a small family owned business, and the baguettes are baked in house every morning. The bread, the meats (steamed pork roll, char siu, headcheese), the veggies, the generous brush of pate...it goes together beautifully. Portions are generous. You can also order this as a combo with Vietnamese iced coffee (saves $1 when doing it as a combo order). Le's opens at 7am! Sometimes I even get this for breakfast after morning school drop off! Metered street parking. Le's Banh Mi: 808 Sheridan St Suite 306 Third floor, Honolulu, HI 96814.
Leahi Health
On Tuesday and Saturday you can get any taco order (2 pieces) and a smoothie combo for $16 at Leahi Health. Really tasty, healthy, and big portion! My go-to combo is the Kale Avocado Tacos and the Coffee Date Smoothie. The tacos come on pita, but you can request fresh corn tortillas instead (no extra charge, and the tortillas are from Raiz Tortillas so you definitely want to do this). I usually go to the Manoa or Kaimuki location. Both have plenty of seating and free/easy parking. Leahi Health: Multiple locations on Oahu.
