    Sachi Sweets (Oahu)

Published: Sep 5, 2024 by Kathy · This post may contain affiliate links · 4 Comments

Sachi Sweets is a small takeout shop in Honolulu. They make amazing desserts and bentos! Think super fresh chirashi, tonkatsu, and unagi bentos made to order. Desserts include soufflé cheesecakes, beautiful fruit parfaits, nama chocolate, and more. Don't forget drinks. The matcha amazake is my favorite.

    Chirashi.

I'm always looking for great takeout options and Sachi Sweets is our go-to these days. They're in a convenient location with easy parking.

The food is really high quality and delicious. And a major bonus is that you can also get desserts and drinks in the same place ^_^

    Parfait from Sachi Sweets.

    Parfait.

We've been getting takeout here for lunch and weeknight dinners. Life has been extra busy these past few months so my appreciation for this place runs deep!

    Inside Sachi Sweets.

    Location

Sachi Sweets is in the McCully neighborhood of Honolulu. It's on King Street in a small two-story complex with popular restaurants like Wagaya and Mama Woo's.

It's a small takeout spot. There is no seating to eat inside. We usually take the bentos, drinks, and desserts home to eat.

There's a free parking lot and metered street parking nearby. The parking lot fills up quickly during lunch and dinner hours, so I try to go during off hours.

    What To Get

    This is the best part!

Sachi Sweets has three types of offerings: desserts, bentos, and drinks.

I originally came for desserts. After several visits, I noticed a small bento menu post on the wall. So I started ordering the bentos which were even more amazing. Eventually I got curious about the drinks. And now I'm in love with all three things. It's hard not to order everything on every visit ^_^

    Bentos - Made To Order

The bentos are delicious, generous, and made to order! They're on the large side and very shareable. Here are the details (they have 10 different bentos).

    Unagi Don Set.

    • Bento 1: Washugu rib eye steak
    • Bento 2: Roast meat
    • Bento 3: Roast meat don
    • Bento 4: Grilled fish bento
    • Bento 5: Thick tonkatsu - They are not kidding when they say thick! Hot and crisp, fried to order. The katsu is so juicy and tender.
    • Bento 6: Jidori chicken karaage -
    • Bento 7: Unagi don set - A meaty portion of unagi, thoughtfully sauced and served over rice. Select half or whole portion of unagi. Comes with miso soup and a large serving of sozai.
    • Bento 8: Unatama don
    • Bento 9: Chirashi sushi - Preorder with 2 day notice required. This chirashi has everything. Maguro, king salmon, hamachi, tako, ika, ikura, botan ebi, Hokkaido hotate, tamago, and cucumber. They are so generous with the fish.
    • Bento 10: Zuke don set - Preorder with 2 day notice required.
    Sozai from Sachi Sweets.

    Sozai.

Note: Many of the bentos come with miso soup and sozai (side dishes).

The sozai changes but often includes nishime (with lotus root, burdock root, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, konnyaku), eggplant, tofu, broccoli, mashed pumpkin salad (like a potato salad but with pumpkin), fried tofu, and mountain yam. The sozai is a real work of art.

    Chicken Karaage from Sachi Sweets.

    Chicken Karaage Bento.

They also have a "Sides Menu" which you can get as an add-on to any bento or buy a la carte. I'm a fan of the mini ikura cup. Many of the bentos come with sozai, but sometimes we also order an extra one.

One of the big bentos + extra order of sozai + go home and cook rice = easy and tasty dinner for two.

    Mini bento from Sachi Sweets.

    Bentos - Grab and Go

In addition to regular / made-to-order bentos, they have a "chef's choice mini bento" available on Thursdays and Fridays.

The offering change weekly, and it's always delicious. The mini bento in the picture above had tomato-scallop mixed rice (reminds me of our scallop butter rice), pumpkin croquette, saba fry, shio koji salmon, miso pork, avocado tempura, nishime, and lots of sides.

The mini bentos are $15 and premade for grab-and-go at a table near the entrance. It's delicious and not mini at all. They also sell onigiri that's made from the same rice used in the mini bento.

    Desserts - Individual

The Japanese style desserts are displayed a refrigerated case when you walk in. Gorgeous and super tasty! They occasionally introduce new flavors or desserts but are pretty consistent with the offerings.

    Strawberry Cake from Sachi Sweets.

Here's what I love (pretty much the whole menu):

    • Soufflé Cheesecake - The velvety soufflé cheesecake slices come in many flavors (plain, ube, hojicha, matcha, and chocolate) and they are all so good. Super fluffy but rich at the same time. We often get plain or hojicha, but the ube is a real hit at parties. Best served slightly chilled, when the cake is simultaneously creamy and light, almost custardy.
    • Strawberry Cake - Your own personal strawberry cake. Three layers of sponge cake with lots of fresh diced strawberries and strawberry whipped cream.
    • Ube Mont Blanc - Roll cake topped with freshly whipped cream and ube piped on top.
    • Chocolate Ganache Cake - Velvety and intense with layers of chocolate cake and chocolate ganache. Topped with fruits and cream.
    • Nama Chocolate - These are like the nama chocolates from Royce, but homemade! 8 pieces to an order.
    • Cream Puffs - Featuring both vanilla and chocolate cream so that you don't have to pick. They use the nama chocolate to make the chocolate filling for the cream puffs.
    • Shiratama Anmitsu
    • Almond Pudding - Topped with a peach jelly and lots of fresh fruits. Super silky almond pudding, especially great on a hot day.
    • Parfait - Layers and layers! There's sponge cake and cream and peach jelly. And lots of chocolate chips, blueberries, green grapes, and strawberries. Almond custard meringue on top. Serve chilled, so tasty.

    Desserts - Whole Cakes

Whole cakes are available with 3-day advance notice.

Soufflé Cheesecakes come in two size options: 9-inch round, or a smaller 7-inch loaf. Pick a flavor: plain, ube, hojicha, matcha, and chocolate.

They also make 9-inch Sponge Cakes - two layers of sponge cake with fresh fruits and cream in the middle.

    Matcha amazake from Sachi Sweets.

    Drinks

The majority of the drink menu are iced teas in fun flavors like yuzu, guava, mango, lilikoi, strawberry, and white peach.

They also make coffee jelly!! Pick whole milk, half and half, or oat milk. What makes their coffee jelly different from other places in town is that it's topped with coffee whipped cream. Mix, mix, mix and drink. Woooow ^-^

The highlight of the drinks menu are the amazake drinks. It's a non-alcoholic drink made from fermented rice. (The only other place I've seen amazake drinks in Honolulu is at the Islander Sake booth at Kakaako Farmers Market.) The amazake comes in different flavors. The matcha and black sesame are wonderful. I still need to try the hojicha and strawberry!

    Nama Chocolate from Sachi Sweets.

    Nama Chocolates.

    When To Go

They have unusual hours to make sure to take note.

Sachi Sweets is closed on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.

They are open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11am-2pm and 3:30pm-6:30pm. They are closed between 2-3:30pm.

    Insider Tips And Notes

Here's are key tips to keep in mind:

Chef's Choice Mini Bentos are available only on Thursdays and Fridays.

    • They sometimes have special bentos which they post about on Instagram (@sachi_sweets1). That's how I first learned about the amazake drinks and hamachi kama and king salmon kama bentos!
    Zuke don from Sachi Sweets.

    Zuke Don.

    • Some bentos require 1 or 2 days notice. The hamachi kama and king salmon kama bento need 1 day notice. The chirashi and zuke don need 2 days notice (assume anything that has raw fish needs 2 day notice). If you're not sure, just call to ask.
    • Bentos are made to order to order and takes about 20 minutes. If you don't want to wait, please call ahead of time to place your order.

Wow! Gotta try this place when we go home for vacation in October. Thanks for this post; without your post I would have never guessed this place offered bentos too. And the sashimi tray looks really good. My wife also loves desserts so this place might be perfect to grab a nice lunch and desserts too!
