Leahi Health is a plant based cafe on Oahu and Kauai. They have multiple locations and are popular for smoothies, housemade kombucha, vegan tacos, savory bowls, and much more!
Leahi Health
Leahi Health has been around for years but I feel like they've gotten extra popular in recent years as more and more people are more health conscious and/or want to eat "better."
It's a very casual cafe. Similar vibes at all different locations. Order at the counter and find some seating. They'll call your name when your order is ready.
This is a good spot to meet friends for a casual and health lunch. Or stop by for a smoothie to go. Sometimes I come in the morning and get a coffee smoothie for breakfast!
Locations
Leahi Health has four locations in Oahu (Kaimuki, Manoa, Aina Haina, and Hawaii Kai) and one location on Kauai (Koloa).
I usually go to the Kaimuki location because it's near a lot of other food places I like (coffee, bakery, butcher, market, etc).
I also like to meet up with friends who have kids at the Manoa location because there is a cute playground there. The adults can eat and the kids can play.
Deals / Specials
They do good deals and specials on different days! Here's the schedule:
Taco Tuesdays and Saturdays.
$15 for any smoothie plus any taco (2 pieces) combo.
Thirsty Thursdays.
$1 off smoothies
Free Wellness Shots on Fridays.
Free with any purchase. They have the shots in the refrigerator and it's self-serve.
What To Order
Smoothies
The smoothies here are SO good and a definite must. They have a big smoothie menu and I'm still making my way through them all. It's hard though because they are many favorites I like to repeat. My go-to smoothies:
- Poi Boy: kombucha, coconut milk, banana, blueberries, pineapple, and poi!
- Morning Mana: cold brew coffee, coconut milk, banana, almond butter, maca, cacao, and cinnamon.
- King Cure: Kombucha, spinach, banana, apple, pineapple, orange, lemon ginger, olena (turmeric) spirulina, and flaxseeds.
Tacos
Their tacos are super popular and served on warm pita bread, two tacos to an order. They have a bunch of different options and my favorite is the Kale Avocado Tacos. They put a garlic bean spread on the pita and topped with shredded kale and a bunch of other vegetables plus black beans and corn. The vegetables are tossed in a cilantro-lime dressing. And to finish, sliced avocado, cherry tomatoes, and sesame seeds.
Note: At the Manoa location you can opt to replace the pita bread with locally made fresh corn tortillas from Raiz Tortillas.
Savory Bowls
Many of their tacos also come in "bowl" forms if you prefer to skip the pita and have more greens. These are pretty hefty, good choice if you're hungry.
Beet Poke Salad (pictured below)
This is neither a taco or bowl, so it gets its own category haha. I like this one a lot. It has steamed beets, diced and tossed with white and green onions. There's fresh avocado, a mock tuna salad (made of chickpeas), tofu, and brown rice. The ginger shoyu dressing they put on top is good. It's pretty simple and I like how you feel good after eating it.
Insider Tips
- Certain items may be only available at certain locations. Eg. The Manoa location doesn't have acai bowls but the Kaimuki location has acai bowls.
- Kaimuki location has a full coffee menu / vegan espresso bar. Check out the menu here.
- Do you need seating? Kaimuki location has a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. Manoa location is at Manoa Marketplace and there are tables outside where you can get a seat (there is no shade so I try to go when it's not extra hot/sunny). The Aina Haina location has a little seating right outside the shop.
- You can preorder online but I find that it's usually faster to just order in person.
