Lanai Bowl (Lanai) - Onolicious Hawaiʻi

Lanai Bowl is a new-ish (opened December 2025) restaurant and bowling alley in Lanai City. Think retro diner vibes with a beautiful, cheerful interior. So fun! Food menu is a mix of local favorites like oxtail soup and chicken katsu. There's also pizza and great milkshakes on the menu ^_^

Kelly, Shann, and I just visited Lanai for a few days! One of the places I was most excited try was Lanai Bowl. It's located in the middle of Lanai City, right in the center of Dole Park.

It's beautiful! I saw photos online before our visit but the interior was even more cool in real life. Super fun retro, lots of soft greens and baby pink. Just overall cheerful vibes and it seemed like everyone there was also happy to be there.

Once you enter Lanai Bowl you can see the arcade section on the right and then the dining room to the left.

Here's the actual bowling alley, they have four lanes. Make sure to book your lane online in advance if you want to guarantee a time. I love every little detail in this place.

We couldn't decide whether to sit at a table or booth or counter! After a small discussion we decided to sit three across at the counter. This unexpectedly ended up being our default seating arrangement for several meals this trip lol.

Take a look at the menu! It's a mix of local favorites like teri burgers, oxtail soup, chicken katsu, and beef stew. Plus diner classics like fried mozzarella, pizza, fries, and milkshakes.

Trying to decide what to order was overwhelming (we wanted it all). So we got a several dishes and shared everything. Even split the milkshake lol.

First up, chicken katsu! Big, generous portion. Good for sharing. All dark meat, thank you very much. Served on cabbage slaw with katsu sauce on the side. All the plates come with two scoops rice or mac salad.

Or you can pick one scoop of each which is what we did! The mac salad scoop was so big it came in a separate bowl. Grated carrots and celery. Plenty of mayo and a bit of pepper. I like the macaroni more cooked when it comes to mac salad, but the flavors were good.

Here is the oxtail soup! My dad makes oxtail soup often at home and his recipe is my favorite, but I also love ordering oxtail soup when we dine out. Every restaurant makes it different and it's neat to taste everyone's version. This one was in a savory, dark broth.

The broth was really flavorful, so good with plenty of rice. It came with classic oxtail soup toppings like cilantro and fried peanuts. They also included fresh lime to squeeze and and ginger scallion sauce.

We spooned portions out into individual bowls. Here is my bowl! I took this photo before I added the broth. So picture it filled with broth.

I like to eat the oxtail itself first - pull of the bigger chunks of meat and "save" that to eat with the rice. Then eat all the other meaty parts more tightly attached to the bone. Set the bone side and use a spoon to devour the rice with soup and meat with all the toppings.

There's a lot of axis deer on Lanai and deer meat is a popular ingredient on the island. We saw it most often in the form of sausages like this pizza which had tomato sauce, axis deer sausage, pepper and onions, and mozzarella.

We technically had enough food but were curious about the pull-apart pizza pretzel. Very glad we ordered it. It comes out hot hot hot, with miso ranch or marinara sauce. We chose marinara.

Look at all that molten mozzarella cheese oozing out from the pretzel bread wedges and crisped along the sides and bottoms. Soooo good. And so ready for a nap after eating all this lol.

But don't forget the drinks! We tried the chocolate milkshake...malted, of course. And with plenty of whipped cream.

Our original plan was to go bowling after lunch, but we were quite full and it was getting late in the afternoon.

So we decided to walk around Lanai City and then back to the hotel. Lanai Bowl opened at 2pm so it was almost 4pm by the time we finished our late lunch!

Needless to say we didn't eat dinner at our usual 6pm. BUT....

...while playing Monopoly back at the hotel later that night...we got a pizza craving! Lanai Bowl was the only place open and serving pizza. Only problem was how to get the pizza.

The restaurant is only a 5 minute drive from the hotel. But we didn't have a car. There was no delivery option. And it was too dark to walk (it's a nice 30 minute walk during the day but no street lights at night).

Lucky the guys at the front desk were super awesome and kindly drove all three of us in the hotel car. 10 minute round-trip and we were back with hot pizza! The "Pepperoni Party Pie" came with tomato sauce, pepperoni, mozzarella, basil, ricotta, and smoky hot honey.

Good pizza, great game of Monopoly, and lifelong friends ^_^

If you come for Wednesday or Thursday lunch, please note they open 2pm.

Neat history: Lanai Bowl is in the same location as the original Dole Park bowling lanes which closed in the 1970s. The space then become the Lanai Community Center for many years. Fast forward to 2025, and now it's Lanai Bowl.
