This is a refreshing, tangy, and creamy smoothie made with just 3 ingredients. Soursop Smoothies are simple to make and super delicious, especially when the good local Hawaii soursops are in season 🙂
Summer is soursop season in Hawaii and my uncle has a nice tree with plenty of fruit! Whenever he has a a few ripe ones he sets them aside for us.
He puts them in a cooler before heading to work, and then texts, soursop is ready. I drive right over to pick up the cooler from our secret spot.
Then the next morning...soursop smoothie for breakfast!

What Is Soursop?
Soursop is a tropical fruit (which is why it grow in Hawaii). It's big and green with lots of little spikes. It almost looked like a cross between jackfruit and an oversized avocado.
It has the most awesome flavor and texture. It's all at once custardy and creamy and slippery. It's sweet with a bright tangy flavor that is almost citrus-esque. I love soursop!
When your soursop is ripe and ready, there should be a little give when you press gently. You don't want it to be soft soft, but it shouldn't be firm.
For this smoothie, we cut the ripe soursop in half or quarters (depending on how big the soursop is), and gently remove the pulp to a big bowl. It's a bit of work, but the payoff is totally worth it.
You must be careful to remove all the soursop seeds. The last thing you want is a soursop seed blended and broken into into tiny, gritty bits in your smoothie! I know this from experience 😉
Ingredients
Here's what you'll need:
- Soursop pulp
- Avocado
- Honey
- Ice
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
This is super easy, you barely need a recipe ^_^
Just combine all the ingredients into a blender (we used a Vitamix). I like to put the soursop first, followed by the avocado, then honey, and ice on top.
Blend until smooth. Pour the smoothie out into two cups.
Drink and enjoy!

Top Tip: Pair With Any Fruit
We paired the soursop with avocado in this recipe, but you can also pair it with any other fruit you have available!
Each fruit will contribute different flavors and texture. We often use avocado because I love how creamy and lush it makes the drink (I'm a big fan of avocado in drinks).

When we had starfruit at home, then we made the smoothie with soursop and starfruit. The starfruit makes the smoothie more light and delicate, and fragrant.
Because soursop is a tropical fruit, as a general rule, it will pair well with other tropical fruits.
Two completely different drinks but equally tasty ^_^
FAQ
As noted in the Top Tip section, you can replace the avocado with any other fruit. A few combos we love include:
soursop + avocado
soursop + starfruit
soursop + pineapple
soursop + mango
soursop + papaya
You can always change up the type of sweetener or leave it out completely. We use a tablespoon of honey, but you can use more or less. It's also personal preference.
Eat it plain!!! Any extra soursop is a true gift. I'd just grab a chair, sit down, eat, and enjoy ^_^

For similar cold blended drinks, try Mango Slush which is super wonderful when local Hawaii mangoes are in season. Theres also a very good Avocado Smoothie and Frozen Hot Chocolate (which is sweetened with dates).
