    Kama'aina Discounts

Published: May 27, 2024 by Kathy · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Looking for good kama'aina discounts in Hawaii? You're in the right place! See below for discounts from restaurants, hotels, spas, shopping and more! These discounts are for kama'aina (local residents of Hawaii). You'll need to show your Hawaii ID card to receive the discount at most places.

    Kama'aina discounts.

    What Is kama'aina?

Are you a resident of Hawaii? If yes, then you're kama'aina ^_^

Note: Being kama'aina is different from being Hawaiian. To be kama'aina, all you have to do is be a Hawaii resident. But you must have Hawaiian ancestry to be Hawaiian.

I am born and raised in Hawaii. I am kama'aina, but I am not Hawaiian (because I don't have Hawaiian ancestry).

    Kama'aina Versus Local

What's the difference between being kama'aina and being local? Not much, we use the two words interchangeably.

In terms of discounts, saying "kama'aina discount" is the same as saying "local discount."

    Perks

There are perks to being kama'aina / local and one of that is discounts! Many restaurants, hotels, museums, services, etc offer kama'aina discounts.

Hawaii's economy is tourist driven, so these kama'aina discounts are sort of a way businesses to say thanks for local support.

    Important To Know

You must have a local ID card to get these discounts.

Please call the restaurant/hotel/spa to confirm the kama'aina deals before going. I try to keep this list as current as possible but deals or rates can often change. It is good to double check.

    Looking for other discounts?

    • The food and dining insert in the Honolulu Star Advertiser (our local newspaper) offers many coupons to local restaurants. The insert is available on Wednesday and Sunday.
    • Next time you're in Waikiki, look for a little booklet called Oahu's Best Coupons. They're available in those newsstands along Kalakaua Avenue and Kuhio Avenue. It's free and they have a ton of good dining coupons in there. And it's not just limited to restaurants in Waikiki, they also have coupons for many places in Ala Moana Center like Musubi Cafe Iyasume.

Enjoy the below list! If you know of any other kama'aina / local discounts, please leave a comment and I'll update the post. Hopefully this is a good resource for everyone ^_^
