How can something so simple be so tasty? And not just tasty, but comforting. Brings back memories from when we were kids. Canned tuna is a popular ingredient in Hawaii and there are a million dishes you can make from this.

A quick stir fry with lots of sliced onions is hot, flavorful, and satisfying. Season with just a pinch of sugar and spoonful of soy sauce. Hits the spot good.

The best way to enjoy this dish is with rice! If you have fresh cooked rice, great. If you have leftover rice, just reheat some on a plate and spoon the tuna and onions on top. Super onolicious.

Mix with scrambled eggs (pic above)! And more variations!

Breakfast the next morning with leftovers: warm the tuna and onions in a small pan over medium heat. Gently move to the side and add 1-2 eggs. Scramble, scramble and then mix with the tuna and onions. Ready to eat! That's the tuna and onions with egg dish, pictured above ^_^

This dish is also great with poi on the side/top.

Replace the sugar with a little rice vinegar.

Add oyster sauce in addition to (or in place of) the soy sauce.

Sprinkle ground black (or white) pepper on top of the finished dish.

Add diced tomatoes and diced onions (instead of sliced onions).

    How to reheat leftovers?

This is a hot dish but I don't love microwaving canned tuna. Best way to reheat is over medium heat in a small saucepan.
