Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodle is a noodle soup restaurant chain from China. This is their first Hawaii location! It's a popular spot for warm and comforting rice noodle soups, Chinese appetizers, and lots of desserts.
Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodle has over 750 locations in China and 70 locations in the US.
I think this is the only restaurant serving Yunnan food on Hawaii! They specialize in rice noodle soups ^_^
Location
Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodle opened inside Pearlridge Shopping Center in August 2023.
They're on the Uptown side of the shopping mall (the side with Ross). It's a big mall so make sure to park on the correct side.
What To Order
They have a large menu! Here's what to get.
Rice Noodle Soups.
Pick a soup: original pork bone soup, golden hot and sour soup, tomato soup, or mala spicy soup. (If it's your first visit, try the original soup.)
Pick a meat: fatty beef, fish filet, pork cutlet, beef brisket, or chicken leg.
The soup comes to the table in a large and insulated bowl. It's very hot so be careful. Meat, rice noodles, and toppings come on the side.
Someone described this as a DIY mini hot pot meal, and that is not wrong.
All soups include ten toppings:
- pickled cabbage
- chives
- quail egg
- goji berries
- wood ear fungus
- white ear fungus
- meat paste
- ham
- tofu puff
- corn
- lettuce
The toppings are served in small individual dishes. It's pretty cool to get so many different toppings. It's just a little bit of each.
How to eat?
First, add the meat and lettuce to the soup. Gently mix.
Add all other toppings. Mix.
Then add the rice noodles. Wait 10 seconds (hence the name). Stir and eat.
It's very satisfying! Simple and comforting.
When you're craving a big bowl of noodle soup (which for me, is all the time), this will hit the spot.
"Ready to eat" rice noodle soups.
There's also a selection of "ready to eat" rice noodle soup dishes.
These soups are served with the noodles, meats, and toppings already mixed in. Which makes them "ready to eat."
I haven't tried these yet but have my eyes on the pickled cabbage with fish filet and the fish maw with chicken thigh for future visits!
Appetizers.
My son loves the mini pork sticky rice. It's like a miniature lo mai gai and perfect for little kids. Two pieces to an order. Each piece is about half the size of a regular lo mai gai you'd get at dim sum.
They also have crowd pleasers like popcorn garlic chicken, salt and pepper calamari, and fried golden buns (which come with condensed milk for dipping).
Will try the deep fried tofu with basil and braised beef tongue on our next visit.
Dessert.
I didn't expect to see desserts on the menu, but it turns out this franchise owner also owns Cloud Nine Cafe (on Kapiolani Blvd near Ala Moana Center).
Cloud Nine Cafe is a popular spot for castella cakes, bubble waffles, and soufflé pancakes. They have the same bubble waffles and soufflé pancakes on the menu at Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodle.
Get both if you have room. If you're only ordering one, I recommend the soufflé pancakes.
Insider Tips
- If you order the Szechuan Mala Spicy, you can specify the level of spicy you want. I didn't know this the first time we went, and the mala spicy was VERY spicy. I loved the flavor but it was too much heat. Next time I'll order the mala spicy, but ask for slightly less heat.
- They have $9.99 takeout bento lunch specials. The specials are posted at the entrance of the restaurant and on Instagram. Good to know if you're regularly in the neighborhood.
- The mall closes at 6pm on Sundays but the restaurant is open till 9pm. If you come after 6pm on a Sunday, call the restaurant after you've parked. They'll open the side door (by BeerLab) for you to enter.
