We are lucky to have many good sources for local eggs in Hawaii. From farms to markets, here's where you can buy super fresh local eggs!
We use eggs in many recipes. We scramble and steam.
You can bake them for Vietnamese egg meatloaf, pan fry with shoyu and green onions, and enjoy them simply mixed into a bowl of hot rice.
Eggs are a staple and local eggs are extra delicious.
Bonus: local eggs are WAY more affordable than mainland eggs from the supermarket. Not only are you getting tastier eggs and supporting local, you're also getting a better deal. Win-win-win.
These are my go-to brands and places for local eggs on Oahu:
OK Poultry
Located in Waimanalo, OK Poultry is an egg farm with super delicious eggs. White eggs, brown eggs, and in all different sizes! These eggs are fresh and fairly priced.
You must arrive to the farm early because they always sell out...try to get there before 8:30am. Only open Wednesday and Saturday.
We go here so often I have a whole blog post about this place.
OK Poultry is especially popular for their Waimana TKG Eggs, super fresh eggs with beautiful orange yolks.
We use these beautiful eggs to make Tamago Kake Gohan...aka TKG ^_^
If you can't get to the farm (it's a pretty far drive from town), you can also find their eggs at Nijiya Ala Moana.
Waialua Fresh / Villa Rose Egg Farm
Located in Waialua, this farm sells fresh eggs from a shipping container. They're located at the entrance to Sweet Land Farm! You can't miss them.
You'll see the large white shipping container, lots of cars and people lined up for great eggs.
They have six sizes of eggs ranging from Small to Jumbo. If you go late or on weekends, there might only be one or two size options left...no matter the size, it's all good.
On our most recent visit, they only had Small size eggs left. One flat for $5 or a case (6 flats) for $30. There are 30 eggs in a flat.
We bought a case...that was 180 eggs! No worries, we shared them with friends and family. Dropped off flats of eggs to everyone's home. We were happy to receive texts/photos of what everyone made with the eggs! So awesome.
They also sell eggs at many supermarkets on the island, but it's more fun to go straight to the farm / shipping container.
Ka Lei Eggs / Hawaiian Maid
If you want to buy eggs from the source, but don't have the time to drive to Waimanalo or Waialua, visit Ka Lei Eggs in Kalihi. It's in a convenient location in town with parking right out front. They have all different sizes and a selection of organic eggs.
Ka Lei Eggs are also available at all the major supermarkets on the island.
Kualoa Grown / Kualoa Ranch
Growing up I thought of Kualoa Ranch as the place where we did high school cross country meets. Then as a young adult, it was a filming location for famous movies and tv shows, a popular wedding venue, and a place where to take fun tours. Now as an adult adult, it's a place where lots of good food is grown.
Kualoa Grown is the agricultural arm of Kualoa Ranch. They grow oysters, local beef and pork, and a variety of fruits and vegetables...and eggs!
Look at this beautiful tray of eggs! A mix of sizes, some white and some brown. The Kualoa Grown market is open Thursdays-Sundays from 10am-5pm.
It's a far drive to Kualoa Ranch for us, so I purchase these eggs when they're in stock at The Local General Store in Kaimuki.
Farm Link Hawaii
Farm Link is another great source for local eggs...and they do free delivery on Oahu. They carry many local egg brands including Shaka Moa / Maili Moa Farm, Golden Family Farmz, and Waialua Growers.
They even have duck eggs from Kahumana Farm Hub in Waianae ^_^
kat
had no idea there were so many places to get local eggs, thank you for sharing
Kathy
Thanks, Kat! So neat, yeah?? They're so tasty! And I really didn't expect local eggs to cost much less than mainland eggs.
