Dehydrated Bananas are simple to make in the oven. They are delicious and easy-to-pack. The come in handy for school pick-ups and quick snack in the car. It best thing to make when you have too many fresh bananas (it's either this or banana bread, heheh). Flavorful and onolicious ^_^

Every once in a big while, our banana plant gifts us with...

    Fresh apple bananas.

...a lot of fresh local bananas!! It's always an exciting day.

My dad is responsible for getting the stalk safely from plant to ground. It is a critical job, all those bananas are quite heavy but we must be careful they don't get bruised or smashed.

    Fresh apple bananas.

And from there, we break it into smaller bunches. We gift lots of bananas to friends and family, and somehow there's still more left! We eat it fresh. Then we make banana tapioca. And banana lumpia. And we definitely make banana bread.

    We also make...dehydrated bananas! Here's how ^_^

    Ingredients

    Here's what you'll need:

    • Fresh bananas
    • Lemon

    Instructions

    Dehydrated Bananas.

    Let's get cooking!

Line a pan with parchment paper cut to fit. Set aside.

Thinly slice the bananas at an angle and place on the pan. Make sure the bananas don't touch or overlap. Squeeze lemon juice all over.

Bake in the oven at 200F for 1 hour.

If you cut the bananas super thin, they'll be done at this 1 hour mark. Taste a piece to check and see. If you feel they need to cook longer, remove the oven from the pan. Flip each banana slice over. And then bake for another 30 minutes.

Then remove from the oven and let cool. Remove the bananas from the pan. Eat and enjoy!

    FAQ / Tips

    Making Dehydrated Bananas.
How long do dehydrated bananas keep?

They keep for about 2 weeks. I like to store them in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

What else can you make with fresh bananas?

We have a lot of fresh bananas in Hawaii so we are well skilled in making tasty banana things. A few favorites:
    - Banana tapioca
    - Banana lumpia
    - Banana bread

Cool the bananas completely before storing.

Make sure to the bananas cool completely before you put them in a sealed container. If they are even the slightest bit warm, they will get soft.

    Crispy or chewy?

They longer you bake the bananas, the more crispy they will get. My recipe for dehydrated bananas is more chewy than crispy. If you want it more crispy, just cook the bananas in the oven for a bit longer (check the oven every 15 minutes).
