Thank you to Gere for sharing this delicious recipe! It is a, "simple cold tofu recipe that my grandma made for us kids way back when..." ^_^

I made it for the first time yesterday. The whole family enjoyed it so much, I'm making it again as part of dinner tonight! We eat a lot of tofu..silken, soft, firm, etc. All forms of tofu! Very happy we can get fresh tofu in Honolulu.

    Ingredients

Ingredients for making Cold Tofu with Sesame Oil and Soy Sauce.

    Here's what you'll need:

    • Medium / firm tofu
    • Sesame oil
    • Soy sauce
    • Ground roasted sesame seeds (optional but tasty)

How to make: ground roasted sesame seeds

    Ground roasted sesame seeds.

The recipe calls for ground roasted sesame seeds. When you buy roasted sesame seeds at the supermarket they are always whole seeds.

You can grind them using a suribachi or a sesame seed grinder (this is what they have sitting on the table at many katsu restaurants). You can also use a mini food processor...I use this when I need to grind a lot of sesame seeds at once.

Note: If you prefer not to grind the roasted sesame seeds or don't have time, just use the whole roasted sesame seeds. As a sesame lover, whole sesame seeds are better than no sesame seeds heheh ^_^

Remove the tofu from the container and drain the liquid. Place the block of tofu in a bowl.

    FAQ / Tips

Cold Tofu with Sesame Oil and Soy Sauce.
    How long do leftovers keep?

Leftovers keep 1-2 days in the refrigerator, in a sealed container. I love this for breakfast the next morning, when the flavors soak so nicely into the tofu.

Sometimes I'm in a rush when taking my son to school. Having a small bowl of this tofu ready to eat in the refrigerator is wonderful. It tastes great and feels nourishing, especially with a cup of tea (or rather, tea to-go in a thermos because we really need to get to school ahaha).

    Variations or additions?

Sometimes I add chopped green onions and a spoonful of chili crisp!
